Although selfies are all the rage, you can't knock a good photographer. Power couple and photography phenoms Darnell Porter and Mercedes Collins are two of Austin's dopest. The duo is guaranteed to deliver top-notch photos while also serving up a serious side of relationship goals.
The two are still fairly new to the photog game, but don't be fooled, they're definitely killing it. Porter started developing his passion for photography in 2011 and has been exceling at it ever since.
"I grabbed a few friends, and we just went outside and took pictures, and people said they liked it," Porter said. "And I liked it as well, so I just kept practicing more and more."
Four years and thousands of shutter snaps later, Porter's weekly schedule is beyond booked. The recent University of Texas graduate interned at ESPN's Longhorn Network and has already snagged the title of published photographer.
The couple's softer side and Porter's better half, Collins has her own photography chops to bring to the table. Collins said she started honing her shutter skills after a trip to Nicaragua last summer.
"I got my first camera and I took my camera with me on the trip and I was photographing sights everywhere," Collins told The Austin Socialite.
From there, Collins built a website and began producing her own work while working as an events photographer for the African American Culture Committee at UT.
It's not unusual to catch the two shutter bugs working together. Porter says the two often support each other in their photography. They've shot a number of events and weddings as a duo, and their work is in high-demand.
Collins credits her passion for photography to Porter and says that he is often there for advice and answers when she needs it.
"Darnell can't really get rid of me," Collins said. "I usually always go support him and go to all his events with him. I got firsthand photography experience from him. Whenever I have questions about stuff, because he's more experienced than me, he's always been able to help me."
The couple has a serious mutual agreement going on behind the lens. Porter says Collins is always there for him in return.
"Just to have that support and her understanding really helps me out to get through it." Porter said.
The couple's future ambitions are as big as the love they have for each other. Ultimately, Porter aspires to work in video productions for a sports team or sports network and recently interviewed for a position at ESPN. Collins has her future goals set on photojournalism and documentaries.
The talent and drive these two have is undeniable and it will definitely take them far. Trust us, we can't stop double-tapping their Instagram posts.
